Two weeks ago, when Loren's mom was here, we actually took an over-night trip to Kaua`i. On Saturday morning, we went to surf at Ho'okipa, and after that, we were planning to go to Hana to camp, but the weather was bad. It would had been a rainy camping in Hana, so Loren decided to go to Kaua`i at the last minute! He told me, "Akari, we're going to Kaua`i! The plane leaves in an hour. Hurry!" We speedly packed up and drove ourselves to the Kahului Airport. We parked our car (it is $14 over night) at the airport and got on the plane.
(Japanese) 二週間前、まだローレンのお母さんがマウイを訪れていた間、実はローレンと私はカウアイ島へ一泊二日の旅行に行ってきました。土曜日の朝にホオキパビーチにサーフィンに行ったのですが、その後、ハナへキャンプに行く予定でした。でもどうやら天気が悪く、雨降りのキャンプになる可能性が高くなりました。「雨でも行くか、どうするか？」と相談をしつつ、とりあえずそれぞれの家へ戻り荷物の準備をしようということでパッキングをしているとローレンから電話が。「よしあかり、カウアイに行くぞ！飛行機が一時間後に出るから急ぐのじゃー！（勿論英語での会話なので、ローレンが「急ぐのじゃー」って日本語で言ってませんけど、ニュアンスとしてはこんな感じでした）」と言い出し、私は「へ？」と思いつつもキャンプに行く用意は出来ていたので、その荷物を持って急いで車に乗り込みました。そしてマウイのカフルイ空港へ行って、車を停めて（一泊14ドル（1600円くらい）で駐車出来るようになっている）無事に飛行機の出る時間に間に合いました。
A couple of hours later, I was on Kaua`i!! I had never been there before, so I was excited to learn how the island of Kaua`i looks like.
(Japanese) ブッシュ大統領がホノルルを丁度その頃訪れていたようで、そのためにホノルル空港が一時閉鎖されたため（彼が飛び立つまでの間）、飛行機が遅れましたけど数時間後に私はカウアイ島に降り立ちました！一度も行ったことがなかったので、どんな島なんだろうと興味深々でした。小さい子みたいにキョロキョロしてました。ローレンは7年ほど前に友達と来てハイキングしたりして過ごしているので、二度目でした。
First, we rented a car and drove to North. At a cute town, Kapa`a, we ate dinner.
(Japanese) 最初に車をレンタルして（一泊二日で46ドルでしたので5300円くらい）、島の北へ向かって走りだしました。途中、カパアというかわいい街で夕飯を食べることに。
On the way to a restaurant, Loren found a beautiful painting on a wall of building. "Akari, why don't you stand there? and I will take a picture of you," he said. I only had a yogurt granola in the morning after the surf session, and I missed my lunch because we left for the airport at the last minute, so my stomach was eating itself, meaning I was super hungry. So, I might look unethusiastic in the picture as if to say, "Taking a picture is good, but I need to be fed now!" But I was indeed excited about this great gift of last-minute trip.
(Japanese) レストランへ向かう途中、建物の壁に描かれたきれいな絵を見つけたローレンが、「あかり、ちょっとそこに立って。写真を撮ろう。」と。私は朝にサーフィンをした後に、ヨーグルトシリアルを食べただけで、お昼ご飯を食べそこねて飛行機に乗ったので、その頃にはお腹と背中がくっつきそうなくらいお腹が空いていました。「写真もいいけど、それより何かこのお腹に入れないと、お腹がお腹を胃液で溶かしてしまいそうだよ。早く写真を撮ってくれ。そして何かこの胃に食べ物を入れないとぉぉ。」って思っていたのでちょっと億劫そうに写ってるでしょ？でも心の中ではこの突然降ってきた小旅行に踊りだしたいほどエキサイティングしてたのですよ。でもまずは腹ごしらえが・・・。
On the other hand, Loren looked fine and posing like a surfer. "We are like tourists!" he said. I thought that we were tourists in a way even though we still live in the neighbor island. But I did not even have power to make a point of it.
(Japanese) その反面、ローレンは元気でサーフィンしてる振りのポーズなどして、「僕たち観光客みたいだね。」って。満面の笑みで。子供みたいに嬉しそうに言ってました。「いや、みたいじゃなくて、私たちそうなんですけど？（そりゃ、カウアイ島もマウイ島も同じハワイ州に属するけど、違う島から来ているから私たち観光客なんじゃ？）」とつっ込む気力もなく。
On another wall, there was another beautiful picture. Do you see fingers picking a paved road off the earth?
(Japanese) 違う壁にもう一つ美しい絵を見つけました。塗装された道路を地球から剥がしている指が見えるかな？こんなに大きな絵を描くってどんな気持ちがするんだろう？
This is the restaurant we had dinner.
ここで夕飯を食べました。
The restaurant was part of this building.
この建物の一角がレストランでした。
I ordered udon, Japanese noodle.
「Udon」というメニューを頼みました。おしゃれなうどんが出てきました。おいしかったです。
