Baby and Organic Cotton 赤ちゃんとオーガニックコットン

Last week, I visited my friend who just gave birth to a baby boy.
(Japanese) 先週、男の子の赤ちゃんを産んだばかりの友達を訪ねて来ました。

It was my first time to meet the baby. Baby is only 6 weeks old. He was sleeping the whole time I was visiting them (about two hours). He woke a couple of times and had mom's milk.
(Japanese) その赤ちゃんに会うのは初めてでした。まだ生まれてから6ヶ月の小さな赤ちゃんでした。（でも髪の毛はふさふさでした。）二時間ほどその子のお母さん（私の友達）とお話している間ずっと、その子は寝ていました。何度か起きてお乳を飲みましたけど。

When he was sleeping in my friend's arms, she asked me if I wanted to hold him. I was delighted to get to do that. I love holding babies because they are soft, sweet, and smell good; they give me a peaceful feeling. I feel awkward to ask moms if I could hold their babies if the babies are still young (like just born) because I think that some moms are nervous to let other people hold their babies. I think it's natural to be that way. The baby was in their bodies only a short while ago, and they are protective like when a mom cat gives birth to her kittens.
(Japanese) 友達の腕の中ですやすやと寝ているときに、友達が「あかり、抱っこしてみる？」と言ってくれました。私はとっても嬉しかった。赤ちゃんを抱っこするのが大好きです。柔らかくて、可愛らしくて、いいにおいのする赤ちゃんたち。安らかな気持ちにしてくれます。でも、私は生まれたての赤ちゃんのお母さん方には「抱っこさせてもらってもいいですか？」と聞かないようにしています。産んだばかりのお母さんは（よほど親しい関係ではない限り）ナーバスかなと思って。子猫を生んだばかりのお母さん猫が周りの物に敏感になってて、少し近づくだけで「シー」って怒った声を出すの同じで、保護的になるのは全く持って自然だと思います。

My friend gently passed him to me, and I held him, and after like a minute, he moved his body, stretched, opened his eyes once and looked at me. I think he thought, "Oh, who is that? She is not my mom." Then, he begun to cry. I gave him back to his mom, and he stopped crying. Well, that's a good sign that they are developing a strong relationship.
(Japanese)　友達がそーっと赤ちゃんを私に渡してくれました。それから1分くらいしたら、赤ちゃんがもぞもぞと動きだして、ストレッチをして、そして目を開けました。彼の目と私の目が合いました。きっと、「あれ？誰だろう？ぼくのお母さんじゃない。」と思ったのでしょうか。それから泣き出しました。すぐにお母さんに赤ちゃんを返しました。そしたら泣き止みました。泣かれちゃったけど、でもそれはいいサインですね。友達と赤ちゃんの間に強い親子の絆が築かれていっている証拠ですね。

It is so amazing to me that human beings have the ability to create a new life and a mother nurtures it in her body and bring it out to this world. What a mystery! the picture above is the baby boy's feet. So cute.
(Japanese)　私達人間は新しい生命を創り出し、母親はそれを胎内で成長するのを手伝い、やがてはこの世に送り出す。私にとってこの過程はとっても神秘的。すごいねぇ。上にある写真は友達の赤ちゃんの足の裏。かわいいねぇ。


As I was looking for a gift for them, I came across with a company in Canada called, Baby Naturopathics Inc. (Japanese)　このお友達に出産祝い用のギフトを探しているときに、カナダのBaby Naturopathics Inc. （ベービー　ナチュロパシック）という会社に行き当たりました。その会社のウェブサイトによりますと「ベービー　ナチュロパシックはキンベリー・デアさんという公認の自然療法のお医者さんであり、また三人の子の母親である彼女のアイディアによって作られました。彼女の家族のサポートあって、デア博士は、自然で健康的な赤ちゃんと子ども向けの製品を作る、斬新かつ環境を意識する会社を作り上げるという長年の夢を叶えたのでした。」

I have already placed orders twice with this company, and they have great customer services. When they sent me what I ordered, they attached a hand written note, stating, "Thank you, Akari for shopping with us." This subtle effort makes a big difference on impression of the company. I was also more satisfied with their products than I expected to be. I love the color of this green, and I think that this color is fine for both boys and girls although I think it's fine if a girl is wearing blue, and a boy is wearing red.
(Japanese)　私は既に二回この会社のウェブ上で買い物をしたのですが、カスタマーサービスがとてもいいのが特徴だと思います。質問にはすぐに答えてくれますし、注文したものには「あかり様、お買い上げ頂き、どうもありがとうございました。」という手書きのノートを添えてくれていました。この小さなお心遣いと努力が、会社の印象に大きな影響を与えるのだなぁと学びました。届いた物の品質も予想以上に良くて、大満足。この緑の色が私は大好きです。男の子でも女の子でも着れる色だと思います。勿論、女の子が青を、男の子が赤を着ていても全然良いと思いますが。

This is a Japanese company called, "The Harvest Plus." It also sells products that are made with organic cotton. I ordered a underclothing for my mother at their web-site as her birthday gift. She told me that she really enjoys wearing it. It's light, comfortable, but keeps her warm in the cold winter season of Japan. Harvest Plus also has a great customer care. I have been contacting with Mrs. Takahashi who is a partner of the store owner. She was easy to talk to and was always willing to listen to my requests. I appreciate their effort to have this company. I am planning to order some gift when my friend in Japan is going to give birth to her third baby in September.
(Japanese) ベービー　ナチュロパシック社に出会った後に出会ったのが、こちらは日本の会社で、「ハーベスト・プラス」さん。こちらの会社もオーガニックコットンで作られた製品を取り扱っています。母の誕生日にこちらの会社のウェブサイト上で肌着を注文しました。母曰く、軽くて着心地が良くて、でもとても暖かいそうです。日本の寒い冬もこれで乗りきれると言っていました。ハーベスト・プラスさんも、お客様へのサービスがとても良いのが特徴です。オーナーの奥さまの高橋けいこさんとずっと連絡を取らせて頂いたのですが、とても感じの良い、話しやすい方で、丁寧に私の要求に応えてくださいました。ご主人と一緒にこのような素敵な会社を建て上げて経営して頂いていて、有難いです。今度9月に日本にいる友達が第三子を出産予定なので、その子にはハーベストプラスさんで出産祝いを購入する予定です。

The underclothing that I gave to my mom.
(Japanese) 母の誕生日に購入した肌着。

Why am I particular about organically grown cotton? I do not have scientific knowledge, but what I learned is that cotton is one of the farm plants that need a lot of agricultural chemicals to grow. Where do they go? They got to penetrate into the land, the air, rivers, and the ocean. In the long run, they will eventually come back to us. (If you are interested, please refer to the site below.)

Probably, having caring customer care naturally comes to companies that are sensitive towards the environment. Obviously, babies who just arrived on this planet but also grown-up ones can be happy when we are held in something comfortable to our skin and to our earth. It has gentle energy.
