Friday, 9/1

This year, we bought a floor ticket for each three night! Last year, we only bought general admission tickets, and on the last day, we bumped into a ticket seller who sold us floor tickets. The floor seats were definitely better than grass seats. The sound was better, people were better, and the experience was much, much better. So, we saved up our money for this once-a-year event which is like a pilgrimage to us.

Still today, I could feel the excitement that I had in my heart right before Dave Matthews Band came out on the stage. It's a feeling of festival that is positively provoking joy out of my chest.

The night started with "Everyday" which is also one of my favorite songs.

9月1日　金曜日

今年は、私たちはコンサートのチケットを購入する際に、三夜ともフロアーチケット（ステージからすぐ下の席）を選びました。昨年は普通席を購入し、芝生の上に座ってコンサートを楽しんだのですが、一番最後の日にチケットを売りさばく人と遭遇し、その人にフロアーチケットを売ってもらったのです。その晩が特別に素晴らしかったもので、ハワイから遥々（はるばる）一年に一度だけ行くのだから、もう芝生の上には座らないぞという結論にいたったわけであります。フロアーシートはもう音の質も違うし、周りにいる人（DMBの根っからのファンなので、ビールをただ飲みに来ている人たちとは違う）も違うし、そうなると経験もポジティブな方向にに違ってくるのであります。私とローレンにとっては、DMBのコンサートに一年に一度行く巡礼のようなもの。行って元気をもらって、「よしこれから一年もがんばるぞ！」となれるのであります。

今でも、DMBがステージに出てくる寸前に私の胸の中に覚えた興奮を忘れられません。それは、あのお祭り前のジョイ（うれしさ）が沢山生産されているときの感覚です。

第一夜は「Everyday（エブリデイ）（毎日の）」という歌で始まりました。私の好きな歌の一つです。

Washington Trip (9) ワシントントリップ (9) 9/1 Gorge

Finally, here we are! Dave Matthews Band's show at Gorge!!!! The first night!

（Japanese)　つにこの日がやって参りました！ Dave Matthews Bandのゴージでのコンサート第一夜！

We left Mount Rainier National Park for George, Washington. As we drove to the east, the view changed. Green trees started to disappear, and the air gets warmer. We entered the desert area.

（Japanese)　リラックスさせてもらったリニアー山からコンサート会場のあるGeorge（ジョージ）という市へ移動です。George（ジョージ）という市にある Gorge Amphitheatre（ゴージ野外コンサート会場）でショーが催されるのです！東へ向けて車を走らせます。山を出ると、景色が段々と変わっていきま した。緑の木々は少なくなり、気温も上がり、砂漠地帯へ入ります。


We arrived in George around noon. We got food, ice, and water and secured a place to sleep. Last year, we slept at Gorge camp site, but we wanted to sleep at a little more quiet place this year. We found this beautiful spot last year where it's right next to Columbus River. We put up our tent there and went to the Gorge Amphitheater.

（Japanese)　お昼過ぎにはGeorgeに着きました。必要な食料や氷を買って、早速寝る場所を確保です。昨年はゴージ野外コンサート会場のすぐ横に設置された、コンサートに来て いる人用のキャンプサイトに寝泊りしたのですが、今年はもう少し静かなところで寝たいということで、昨年見つけておいたスポットへ行きました。そこは、コ ロンビア川のすぐ傍で、静かなところです。そこでテントを張ってからコンサート会場に移動しました。

Washington Trip (8) ワシントントリップ (8) 8/31 Mount Rainier

Thursday, 8/31 (still 8/31...)

After we hiked all day, we went to a small town just outside of Mount Rainier National Park to call Grandma and check our cell phone messages. At a small general store, we used a public phone and called Grandma. She was doing well. Loren also called his sister and brother-in-law to ask how the funeral went. It went well, too. We checked our cell phone messages. No emergency. Good.

After that, we found a small market place where we could take a shower. In the market place, there was an artificially made big rock for rock climbing practice. I have never done it before, but I would like to try someday. Loren showed me how to, and I climbed like a monkey, but when I tried a side with an inclination of 30 or 40 degrees, I could not climb up to the top. I was stuck... I could not neither come down nor go up.... I finally jumped off, though.

一日中歩き回った後、リニアー山国立公園から少し出たところに、ローレンのおばあちゃんに電話するためと私たちの携帯の留守電をチェックするためにある小さな町に行きました。小さな雑貨屋さんの脇にあった公衆電話からおばあちゃんに電話をしましたところ、元気にやっているようで安心しました。それからローレンの妹さんと義理の弟さんにも電話をして、お葬式が無事に終わったことも聞きました。私たちの携帯電話にも特にこれといった緊急な用事も無く、良かった、良かった。

その後、近くでシャワーを浴びれる小さな小さなショッピングセンターのようなところを見つけました。そこの敷地内に、岩登りを練習するために人工的に造られた大きな岩がありました。私は今まで木登りは沢山してきたけど、岩登りはしたことないなぁ。いつか真剣に学びたいです。ローレンがどう登るのか少し見せてくれました。私はおサルさんみたいに登ったけど、傾斜が30度から40度ほどあった面では、上まで登ることが出来ませんでした。途中で降りることも出来ず、かと言って登ることも出来ずに、にっちもさっちもいかない状態になっておりました・・・。結局は飛び降りましたが。


After we took a shower, we were going back to our camp site to cook our dinner, but we found this cute restaurant on the way back. We decided to have a dinner there. The restaurant also runs an inn. They had cute log houses. I would love to live in one of these houses! And our dinner was so wonderful!! If you ever go to Mount Rainier, you should check them out.

シャワーを浴びた後、夕飯を作るためにキャンプサイトに帰る途中に、このかわいいレストランを見つけました。私たちは疲れていたせいもあって、もうここで食べようよということになりました。そのレストランは小さくてかわいいログハウスを持っていて、そこに泊まれるようになっていました。こんなお家に住みたいわ！そして、肝心の夕飯ですが、とってーもおいしかったです。もしリニアー山に行くことがあったらぜひオススメです！

Thursday, 8/31 (still 8/31)


After the first hike, we had a lunch by the Reflection Lake. The lake was literally reflecting the mount rainier. I did not look into the lake's surface, but if I did, I might have seen something that reflected on me...??

最初のハイキングコースの後は、「リフレクション（反映）レイク（湖）」に行って、そばでお昼を食べました。湖は、名前の通りリニアー山を反映しておりました。水面を覗かなかったんだけど、もし覗いていたら、何が写っていたかしら・・・？

After our yummy lunch, we went to the next hiking spot, Narada Falls. It was a big water fall, and we saw a rainbow on the water fall. Can you see it? We hiked down towards the Paradise camping site from there.

おいしいお昼ご飯の後は、「ナラダ滝」という次のハイキングスポットへ。それは大きな滝でした。そして下の方に虹も見えました。見えるかな？そこからパラダイスキャンプサイトへ向けて登山道を降りて行きました。

Then, we found a bush of wild raspberries. I picked one and ate it. It was a bit sour but was sweet over all. We also found blueberries there. I wanted to eat all of them as a berry lover, but Loren told me that eating too much wile berries is not a good idea.

そして、野生のラズベリーの茂みを見つけました。一つ摘んで食べてみた。少し酸っぱかったけど、全体的に甘かったよ。そしてブルーベリーの群集も見つけました。ベリー（イチゴの家族）には目のない私は、全部食べてしまいたいくらいだったけど、ローレンが野生のベリーは食べ過ぎると良くないというので、少しだけ食べました。

We took about an hour of nap there, too.

Thursday, 8/31

It was rainy yesterday, and we were a bit anxious to see the next day's weather. Loren always wakes up before I do. This morning, he made a morning fire, using the charcoals from last night and made a cup of miso soup for me. He woke me up by calling me, "Little monkeee! It's time to wake up!!" as usual. (Loren often calls me "Little Monke." It's his way of expressing his affection towards me, and I like to be called like that.)
I came out of the tent and saw the blue sky! Yes! It was sunny! Thank you, nature.

昨日は雨でしたから、私たちは翌日の天気が気になっておりました。
ローレンはいつも私より先に起きます。今日も先に起きて、昨晩出来た炭を使って、朝の火（焚き火）を作って、味噌汁を温めてくれておりました。いつものように「リトルモンケー（小さなおサルさーん）、起きる時間でっすよー！」って起こされました。（ローレンは私のことをよくリトルモンケって呼びます。彼の一つの愛情表現です。そう呼ばれることに慣れてきて、今では何故かウレシイくらい。小学校の頃、一時期私のあだ名は「サル」だったし。小さい頃は「モンチッチ」と呼ばれていたし・・・。おサルさんとの関係があるようですね。）
眠たい目をこすりながらテントから出てきた私が見たものは、青い空！はい！晴れております。快晴です。自然よありがとう。


After breakfast, we went to different hiking spots and enjoyed hiking short trails. Originally, we planned to do a backpacking this year in Mount Rainier, but my foot did not recover well enough for this time. Oh well, next time.

朝食の後は、いくつかのハイキングスポットに行って、短いハイキングを楽しみました。本当は、リニアー山でバックパッキング（大きなリュックサックに最小限に必要な物を詰めて、徒歩で山を登って、自然の中で寝泊りする）予定だったのですが、スタッフインフェクションにかかってしまった足が、旅の日程までに治りきらなかったので、残念ながらキャンセルしました。うーん、残念。また今度。

I think that an early morning is the best time to admire the true beauty in things
because the sun brings them out. It's the magic time.
So is the sunset time.

朝早くが、色々な物の本当の美しさを見るのに一番の時間だと思います。
お日さまがそれらを抽出するから。マジックタイムです。夕日もそうだね。


All around the hiking trail, beautiful, wild flowers were blossoming.
