About to Leave

I am going to leave for Washington tonight.

My foot is getting better. Yesterday, I saw a doctor just in case. She said that it is on the right path to heal, but no more ocean for awhile.
I am still on antibiotics, but my body seems to have adjusted to it. I don't nauseate anymore.
Cramps and a headache is gone, too.

I had easy nights with Grandma for the last three nights.

I did a lot of homework for the last couple of days to enjoy the trip without worrying about it.

I am packing now.

I think I am going to be ready soon.

I will be back on Monday night. I will write about what we did in Washington.

I am looking forward to seeing Loren soon.

I sent a sympathy card to Loren's family in Milwaukee. I prayed for Cora.

See you later. Have a nice weekend.

Toward the Light

[Photo: A big shell on a kitchen counter. When the sun was setting,
it was shining through the shell. I thought it was beautiful.]

How are you doing, my friend? I hope you are doing well physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Me? I am doing fine spiritually, but not so good physically and emotionally.
It's mainly due to my period (started today) and side effect from taking the antibiotics. I am having a headache and cramps from my period. Additionally, I feel nauseous about an hour later I take an antibiotic pill, and it lasts for about two hours... I take it three times a day after each meal, so by the time I start to feel better, I have to eat and take the next one. Consequently, I feel nauseous most of the day...

My right foot was swollen badly last night. It's been already a week since my foot was infected, and I don't have a good confidence that it is healing well. I am planning to see a doctor again tomorrow just in case. I am not supposed to intake any sugar right now because it feed the infection. I usually do not eat a lot of sugar, so it is not hard for me to avoid it, but I did not know that sugar is almost everywhere... It is sad that I even cannot eat fruits, though. And, pain was the strongest yesterday. Each time I put my foot down, a sharp pain ran through! It was not fun.

Yesterday, Loren's close relative passed away. We have known that the end of her life was approaching since it was notified by a medical doctor about a year ago, but it was still sad when I heard from Loren that it finally took a place yesterday. I only met her once when I went to Milwaukee with Loren in July, and I am not her family, but even I was sad. I can imagine how sad it is for her family. This weekend, I had a weekend UH (University of Hawaii) course, so I was at a school. Loren called me to tell me that she passed away. He also told me that he was going to leave last night to visit his family in Milwaukee. I went home and gave him a ride to the airport.

We thought about canceling the trip to Washington all together, but we already purchased air tickets and concert tickets. We tried to sell them, but it was difficult since it was last minute. We could not extend our trip either because I will have the state massage licensing exam on 9/5. We decided to go anyway even for four days. We are going to meet at Seattle airport on Wednesday morning. We really need a break!!!

Life is full of "happenings." We would not last long if we react to each of them. Like when you drive through a tunnel, you don't see right in front of you but look at where you are going - where the light is - we got to have faith and just move on step by step, and things automatically get better. Of course, we cannot forget to live in "now" while you are looking for the light.

Staph Infection 2

My scar seems to be doing well. Scab finally covered the entire scar, so it's not wet anymore. I just do not feel well, though. I am so drowsy... I think it's because of the antibiotic I am taking now. My right foot is still swollen, and it makes walking hard. Pain runs through each time when I put my foot down.

Well, I took a picture of my both feet today... I put it towards the end, so if you don't want to see it, please skip it. The picture can tell that the right foot is bigger than the left one.

I hope to feel better soon... because Loren and I are going to a trip to Gorge, Washington this coming Sunday night. We are going to stay there for a week. The main purpose of this trip is to go to Dave Matthews Band's shows at the Gorge Amphitheater for three nights!! (You might think that we are big fan of DMB by now. Yes, you are right! We are DMB freaks!) Also, we will camp, hike, do white water rafting, and so on. So, I really want my health back to enjoy this trip.

What I learned from this staph infection is how much I take for granted that I usually have a good health. Being able to dance, run, walk, and alive is such a gift.

Staph Infection

I have not uploaded my blog for about four days (not too bad).
The reasons are:
1) University of Hawai'i Fall semester started this past Monday --> I came back to my homework (student) life.
2) I got staphe infection.

This past Saturday, Loren and I went to kitesurf. One time, wind picked me up, and I lost control over the kite. I was dragged on the beach, and I broke the skin on top of my right foot. It bled a quit bit, but I did not want to give up, so I was trying again and again after it happened. I did not pay much attention to it, but I put Neosporine (ointment) on the way home. I took a shower, and washed the scar with hydrogen peroxide. (I should not have done it. If you want to use it, it is suggested to dilute with water. I did not know that...) Then, I went to bed.

The next day, the scar was still bleeding and was wet. It looked pretty disgusting. I thought that it would heal soon and put Neosporine a couple of times a day.

Monday, it was still wet and started to ache. I could not walk normally. My friend told me to see a doctor. I made an appointment for Tuesday. (There was no opening for Monday.) On Monday night, my right foot was swollen. We called a friend who works at an emergency room. (It's so nice to have various friends with various occupations, you know.) He told me to put leg up as I sleep. Do not wet the scar. Cover the scar with gauze.

On Tuesday, a doctor told me that I had a steph infection. She prescribed me with antibiotic medicine which I take orally. I take it three times a day. I do not like taking pills, but I had no choice. I did not want it to get any worse than it was.

Today, I feel better, and the pain is lessening. The scar finally started to make scab over it. Right foot is still swollen, though. I hope that it will get better soon. This is my first experience of having a staph infection... I was unwary about it. Well, I learned in a painful way.

(I took a picture of my scar, but I decided to not put it here since it is unsightly.)

Taking an Action

About a week ago, I broke the left headlight of my car. I was at the Ho'okipa Beach to surf, trying to do a parallel parking in a small space. Second third of my car fit, but the rest of it did not quite fit in, so I thought, "This doesn't work." I decided to look for another space to park. There was a big truck of Maui County parked in front of me. The truck had a hard, metal, and square edge. I was carefully, slowly coming out. I thought that there was an enough space. However, apparently, I miscalculated it. My car does not have a power steering, and, it is a manual car. In that small space, I had a hard time of swerving it. Before I knew it, my car slowly crushed into the truck. (Good thing that it did not crush in a full speed.) I was like "......... oh no..." I backed up and heard the noise of plastic falling down to the ground. I tried again and was able to come out. The driver of the truck came and looked at his truck. The truck did not even have a scar. He did not say anything and went back to his work. (I think he was fixing the public bathroom at the beach.)

I wanted to fix it right away, but I did not really know how to and whom to ask. I wanted to spend as less money as I could. About a couple of days later, I went to Napa to see if they had any part to fix this problem. There was only one new headlight cover was left for my car’s type. I was lucky, and it was only $27. Right after I bought it, I tried to install the new one at Napa's parking lot. The old, broken cover did not come out easily, and a worker of Napa walked by and saw me struggling. He helped me to take it out, and he put the new one in for me. Hooray! I fixed it with only cost of $27!!

What I want to emphasize today is that taking initiative action is important in our lives to make things happen. I am kind of a person who likes to solve problems immediately, so I am learning to be more patient. But, it is sometimes important to think, plan, take actions, and assess the process as well as result. To make things happen, you got to take actions! We cannot just sit around and hope that someone would do it for us.

Actually, (might sound like an excuse, though) parallel parking was my favorite skill when I was going to a driving school in Japan. I think that I am pretty good at it; however, since Maui does not have many parallel parking places, I have not practiced it for a long time, and also no-power-steering with a stick shift can be pretty painful. Anyway, I will try to be more careful from now on. Fortunately, I have not had a car accident yet (although I have scratched a pillar and an electric pole), so I hope to keep this record for the rest of my life.

------------------------(Japanese)----------------------------------------
