Tenzin テンジン

My friend, Tenzin called me out of blue. She said she was at the shopping mall on Maui.

She is originally from Nepal.　She and I took the same psychology class at Maui Community College (MCC) in Fall 2003. We became friends, and we studied together, hung out, and even danced Yosakoi together! She was like a big sister to me. Well, actually, she acts like a small child, so sometimes I feel like I have to make sure that she is okay. No, I'm kidding :) She has a very pure heart and is playful. I really enjoy joking around with her. She sometimes invited me to eat dinner with her and her brother. I really liked her cooking. She is a good cook, and her brother said that he trained her :) Anyway, I really enjoyed her company and our friendship, but her dream led her to Portland year 2004. She moved there to go to a college. I went to see her there over the Christmas, and she moved to Santa Cruz in 2005. I also saw her there last summer when Loren and I went to San Francisco for a concert. We don't e-mail each other at all, but for some reason, we seem to bump into each other and keep our connection that way, and I think that it's cool.

She came to Maui for her vacation last month, and she called me to say hello. I was happy to hear from her. Her boyfriend was also on Maui, so she was busy showing him around. I hope that they had a great time on this beautiful island. We spent about an hour and half at the mall. We just cruised around as we chatted over things. She bought me a pink t-shirt which she also bought one for herself. We tried out different hats. I don't go to a mall or go to shopping, so it is a good chance for me to see what is up at mall, and to just have a "girl" time. She went back to Santa Cruz. She will be a nurse and is studying hard. 友達のテンジンがある日突然電話をくれました。マウイのあるショッピングセンターに居るというのです。

テ ンジンはネパール出身で、２００３年の秋に大学で同じ心理学のクラスを取ったことを機に友達になりました。一緒に勉強をしたり、遊んだり、そしてよさこ いまで一緒に踊りました。テンジンは私にとってお姉さん的存在。でも彼女は時々子供みたいにはしゃぐことがあるから、私は彼女の面倒を見なくちゃいけな いこともある。っていうのは冗談で、彼女は子供みたいなピュアなハートを持っているっていう意味。よく冗談を言い合って笑ったっけ。時々夕飯にも呼んでく れて、彼女と彼女のお兄さんと一緒にテンジンの作るインド料理（ネパール料理の時もある）を食べたりしたよ。テンジンは料理が上手だと言ったら、お兄さん が「僕が教えたんだ。」って言ってた。まぁ、そんなこんなで彼女とのフレンドシップをエンジョイしておりましたが、２００４年の彼女はアメリカ本土にある オレゴン州のポートランドに引越していきました。そこにある大学に行くために。そして2005年にはカリフォルニア州のサンタクルーズに引越しました。 ２００４年のクリスマスに私はポートランドに遊びに行ったし、昨年の夏にはサンフランシスコにローレンとコンサートを観に行った時にサンタクルーズで彼女 に 会ったし、私たち、普段は全くメールはしないけどひょんなところで再会しているのですね。こういう関係の続け方もあるんだなって思う。

彼 女はマウイに冬休みを使って来ていました。彼女の彼氏もサンフランシスコから一緒に来て、テンジンは色々と観光案内をするのに忙しかったみたい。でも楽し んでたみたいでよかった。テンジンとはショッピングモールで一時間半ほど会いました。特に何をするでもなく、ただ歩き回って服を試してみたり、そうしてい る間に色々と話をして・・・。私は滅多にショッピングセンターに行ったり、服を買ったりすることが無いので、こういう機会にどんな新しいものがショッピン グセンターにあるか見たり、ただ「女の子」の時間を持つのも悪くない。彼女は今はサンタクルーズに帰っていきました。将来ナース（看護士）になるために一 生懸命勉強しています。写真はGAPにて帽子を試着（？）しているところ。
