Thank You Party ありがとうパーティー

14 日の土曜日の夜に、プカラニに建てられたローレンの新しい家にてパーティーを開きました。これは「Thank You Party」という名のパーティーで、ローレンが家を建てるにあたり、お世話になった人に感謝の思いを表したく思い立った企画でした。二週間前から準備を 開始。私はPublisher（Windowsのソフトウェア）を使って招待状を作って、Kinko's（印刷会社）に行ってカラープリントアウトして、 家に帰ってきて、ローレンのカラーコピー機で60枚は作ったかな。それから封筒を買って、ローレンは60人の方々に電話をして住所を聞いて、二人で宛名書 きをして、切手を貼って送りました。それから私が撮り溜めていた家の写真を整理して、パーティーにいらっしゃるみんながスライドショーで見れるようにしま した。ローレンが土地を 買った時の何もな、ただの黒土の平地から、コンクリートを入れて、家の枠組みをして、屋根がついて、壁が入って、床が入って・・・。最後に完成するまで ステップ　バイ　ステップで写真を撮ってきていたのですよ。私がしたのはそれくらいで、それからローレンはいくつかのケータリング（お料理を作って届けて くれるサー ビス）会社に電話を して、値段を比べてメインディッシュを頼んだり、友達のチャーリーからプラスティックのアウトドア用の椅子を沢山借りてきたり、家の掃除をしたり、家具を 少し動かした りと、色々としておりました。私は体調的に100%元気では無かったので、あまり肉体的には手伝えなかったけどコンピューターで出来ることをしたかな。当 日は6時半にパーティーは始まって、続々と人がやって来てくれました。
もう一つのパーティーを企画した理由は、沢山の才能溢れる私たちの友人がお互いに知 り合ってもらいたいというものでした。8時少し前に昨年The Studio Mauiのショーで知り合ったSaralaがインドのOddisiダンスを踊ってくれました。（彼女のウェブサイトが 私のリンクにあるので見てみてく ださい。）彼女の美しい、聖なる踊りがローレンの家を祝福してくれました。ローレンの友達のジョシュとス コットもドラムを演奏してくれました。そして、 私がSaralaの後によさこいを踊りました。皆さんこの予期していなかったであろうパーフォーマンスに喜んでくれました。50人は来てくれたかな。近所 の方も来てくれたことは嬉しかった。ローレンのおばあちゃんもこの晩はとても社交的で（パーティーの前は気が乗らないようだったけど）、沢山の人と話をし ていま した。
ロー レンは殆どザッパリした性格で、あまり考えてないように見えることがあるけど（失礼）時々はっと関心させられるのが、彼は思ったよりもちゃんと考えてい て、特に彼は友達をとっても大切にしているということです。プカラニの家が建て始められる前に、大工さんを招待して名の知れたレストランへご招待して、 「これからお世話になります。どうか一緒に良い仕事をしましょう。」と挨拶をしているし、こうして終わった後はお世話になった人を招待して「おかげさまで 家 が建ちました。ありがとうございました。」と言っているし、けじめは付ける人ですね。この点は私と価値観が似ているので、一緒に企画したり働くのが楽し い。二人とも友達を驚かせたり、喜ばせることが好きなんだと思います。来てくれたみんな、本当にありがとう。私たちはこれから定期的に友達をお家に呼ん で、小 さなパーティー（集会みたいな）を持とうと話しています。みんなの才能や考えをシェアできる場所を提供できるといいなと思っています。

On Saturday night (1/14/06), Loren and I hosted a "Thank You" party at Loren's new house in Pukalani. We wanted to thank everyone who helped him to build the house. We started to prepare two weeks ago. I made an invitation card with Publisher (Window's software), and then I went to Kinko's to print it in color. I made 60 copies of it at home with Loren's color copy machine. Loren called everyone and got their mailing addresses. We bought envelops, wrote addresses on them, put stamps, and sent them out. It was actually a fun process to me. Then, I made a photo presentation with all the pictures of the Pukalani house that I have taken since there was nothing but just dirt. That's about what I did. Loren did a lot. He called catering companies and ordered main dish, cleaned the house, moved furniture, went to his friend Charlie's and borrowed his chairs, bought drinks, got ice, and etc. I was not feeling 100% well, so I could not help him physically, but I was happy that I could help him from the technology side. At 6:30pm, the party begun, people started to arrive, and they seemed to enjoy getting to know each other. Before 8pm, Sarala danced her beautiful Oddisi dance. Her dance blessed Loren's house beautifully and sacredly. (Her website is available under my link, please check it out.) I met her at the Random Acts of Spring at the Studio Maui last spring. Since then, I have been enjoying getting to know her and her family. Loren's friends, Josh and Scott played drums, and I danced Yosakoi. I think that people enjoyed these unexpected performances. There were fifty people at the peak, and Grandma Elsie (Loren's grandmother) seemed to enjoy the party, and it made me happy. I think that Loren is not seriously thinking about things (hahaha ;), but actually, he really does. He is especially good at thinking highly of his friends. He invited the workers who built the house to a dinner at a famous restaurant before the construction begun. At the dinner, he expressed, "Thank you for working with me. Let's do a good job and build a nice house." Then, now, after the house is built, he wanted to thank everybody. I think that this is something we have common that we like to express out gratitude, surprise, and make our friends happy. So, it's fun to work with him when we are looking at the same goal. We are hoping to have a regular gathering at this house in order to provide a place for people to share their talents and thoughts. We will call you soon :) P.S.
